Sweet Knits By Sweet Ladies

Leah Mason
It was so busy one year we thought we wouldn't be able to keep up.

What kind of items will we find in your shop and what makes the unique?

Knit/Crochet Scarves, Hats, headbands and hair combs.

How long have you been crafting? Do you have formal training or are you self taught?

I  have been crafting since 2003. My mom, Sharon-who also works in the shop, taught me how to knit. Sharon learned from a local designer she worked for so she could help with the designers knit line.

What inspires you?

High fashion, Whimsy and girly things inspire me.

Describe your creative process.

My creative process...hmm...For Sharon she works best by letting her yarn just speak to her in the creation process. I think the same goes for me however being in the knit business I look at fashion and think how can this be turned into a knit project and would people wear it.

Are you working on anything new that you'd like to share?

Yes! We are working on a line for Babies (newborn to 1 yr), Children (ages 2- 10), Men's, and adding gloves to the mix! Whew!! There is a lot we want to do.

What do you consider your greatest accomplishment?

I think our greatest accomplishment was being able to make it as vendors into Baltimore Fashion Week this year! We met so many great people and did a couple interviews. It was really great exposure!

Your biggest challenge?

BALANCE - balancing motherhood, with a full time job and working my knit business too. Sometimes I hardly get sleep from becoming so engulfed in Sweetgirl and Company.

Is there a special story you'd like to share with us about one of your pieces?

Our Signature Knit Scarf is a very important item at Sweetgirl and Company. We have sold the most of these styled scarves than anything else in our shop. It is also the scarf that started it all. I made my very 1st scarf in this style and it became so popular that business just took off!

What kind of experience has running an Etsy shop been for you?

Running an etsy shop has been awesome! I was looking for a way to introduce my product online. Etsy made it simple. Although most of our sales are direct and local we hope for sales to pick up online soon and we improve our e-marketing efforts.

What advice would you give to new Etsy sellers?

Join a team, become part of many circles and get involved with the Etsy community.Take advantage of social media. If you sell clothing or accessories...wear your own stuff. Its good advertisement especially if you get a compliment you can let them know you made it which could lead to a sale.
